i would bet money the crating&shipping costs are more than the production cost of the entire set of prints.

I assume that someone spending $24k on a set of 10 prints, or $2.4k on one knows enough about KAWS to explain his art to people who visit.
Either that or they're in it for the investment.
OK, this is how I would explain it.

"The artist draws/paints and mimics famous cartoon characters with x's in the eyes, and this one in particular, is a giant blow up of Spongebob's face. See this here, its part of an eyeball. Cool, huh?"
