If you're going to act like you know printmakers at least spell their name right. SEAN** Starwars. Serigraph** Btw Serigraphs refer to prints that are Fine Art rather than commercial purposes. In this case it would be Silkscreen/Screenprintingbluebirdsong wrote:I recommend speaking with Dan Black from Land land about process, he has proven to be quite resourceful as far as education went for me, since they do all their printing in house at Land land. Other noteworthy people to interact with are Little friends of Printmaking and Shaun Starwars. Oh and if you have never seen Just Like Being There I recommend that film, as far as further education check out your local university ask to volunteer your time in the print studios around town, with enough persistence people will teach you. I recommend starting small, build your own exposure unit in a climate controlled room for your screens, buy a cabinet to store said screens when you activate the unit (you want to avoid exposing screens that don't need to be), buy a rack for your prints, buy a small press, or to start just buy a table that is big enough to lay various screens flat and start trial and error soon your fun hobby will become a business endeavor. Printmaking is a very interesting subject to explore and I incline you to reach further than just learning about seriagraph's; look up drypoint, relief, intaglio, linocut, woodcut, lithography, letterpress and add the word printmaking after those terms there are tons of available online resources on how to start out. You'll be frustrated for sure starting out, but with time you'll find that it is therapeutic. It's probably the only thing that keeps me sane, I don't make prints per say, but t-shirts are fun to make and so are bootleg punk patches screened to cloth.Diabolos80 wrote:I see it now. I enjoy learning about screen printing techniques. I'd probably have a lot of fun at a class or seminar. Could you guys recommend a good artist who teaches occasionally? I know Jay does. Hey Jay! Getcher butt to Texas and teach me some stuff already.

By no means did I say I know them, just have conversed with them briefly about different techniques and how to go about starting printmaking on my own, nice catch on the spelling errors. As for the classification of Jay's prints I can see how that is a correct labeling of his work.. my mistake. Was just offering terms to a fellow user to explore, appreciate the corrections. There is one form of printmaking that I can't quite think of off the top of my head that involves the use of a matrix made up of anything, a collaged assembly of miscellaneous items usually textured with acrylic.coffeeemug wrote: If you're going to act like you know printmakers at least spell their name right.
