The Broad had a few authentic Basquiat prints for sale but they took the pages down after they sold. I can't recall if they were signed or not, but I believe the price was $95,000 for one.
Pace released a print from the estate for $45,000 back in 2016.
For anything authentic that was released while he was alive, you need to have a six figure budget.
Basquiat Print question
Thanks for the info. I reached out to the seller and this was their response.pekalex wrote: ↑Tue Jan 18, 2022 5:55 pmTheres a similar Basquiat print on eBay and the guy is asking $11,900. Maybe the seller has more information.

“Hey. I don’t know much honestly. I bought it at an auction and I’ve seen a few of his other prints, with the same labeling, being sold. I doubt they’re worth much but they’re pretty rare.
I’m not even looking to sell it as I like it a lot but figured I’d offer it on eBay for a ridiculous price just in case. Sorry I couldn’t be of much help.“
Yeah I figured anything officially signed by Basquiat would have a hefty price tag. Just wanted to see what I had on my hands so I could make sure to take care of it properly. Looks like this might be a dud. I do have some feelers out to a company that deals with a lot of Basquiat work but they are probably laughing right now.derivitive wrote: ↑Tue Jan 18, 2022 7:31 pmThe Broad had a few authentic Basquiat prints for sale but they took the pages down after they sold. Basquiat did very few signed prints in his short lifetime, and in the 1970s he was a street artist making lo-fi prints on xerox machines at the copy shop. Those he did make and sign generally do not end up on 1stdibs. Plus the COA shown in the link is the least legitimate-looking COA I've every seen. No gallery, publisher, printer, or reseller listed at all. No description of tirage, edition, print technique, or paper. No signature and no blindstamp or seal. It's literally just a random bio printout with the words "certificate of authenticity" printed above it.fribhey wrote: ↑Tue Jan 18, 2022 2:08 pmif basquiat painted it in 1983 then why is the print dated from the 19070s?watersbrad wrote: ↑Tue Jan 18, 2022 12:02 pmThose prints look legit to me, I am officially jealous!
If they are signed in pencil and come with COA's, then you probably have acceptable provenance to enter the secondary market if you choose.
Hit me up if you ever decide to sell/trade one...

That said, I'm not that knowledgeable about Basquiat editions. But I'm pretty familiar with Haring. And that particular image is listed by the Haring Foundation as a unique painting on tarp from 1982, not as a print. I just flipped through my entire copy of Littmann and it's definitely not listed in Haring's catalog raisonné of editions on paper either. In 1982, Haring only released 7 prints (per Littmann) and 1 poster (per the Foundation), and none of them were photos of paintings. In fact, out of the hundreds of print editions Haring did in his lifetime, all of them are drawings or paintings done specifically for print production. I couldn't find a single copy of an official editioned photoprint of a large-scale tarp painting in the catalog or on the foundation website. Sorry.
you rock dude - this is why I came to EB originally... depth of knowledge
thanks for posting
Thank you so much for your depth of knowledge. And for actually looking into this for a complete stranger. I appreciate this community.misterwhisper wrote: ↑Tue Jan 18, 2022 2:49 pmThis. Has been said before, but that COA is pathetic on that website. I savvy 6th grader could come up with a better COA than that one...generic border with a couple pictures and a wiki bio hahaderivitive wrote: ↑Tue Jan 18, 2022 3:19 pmYou're not getting an authentic signed and numbered Haring or Basquiat print for $4,800
