I love the EB database and am so appreciative of all of the work that has gone into creating it. One of my favorite aspects of this site in general is finding new artists and art to appreciate and occasionally collect. A great way of doing this is by looking at what other members collect, especially those that are already into the same type of music and art as me. Just curious though, why do some on here choose to hide their collections / require a password to view?
I feel weird randomly messaging someone just to look at their collection but is that standard protocol? Why hide it in the first place?
Just curious.

My assumption would be that those users were constantly pestered about specific items in their collection. Imagine having something very desirable or an OG and receiving constant inquiries about it even though it isn't listed in your for sale/trade.

Correct assumption. Nothing like getting an unsolicited messages about stuff that's off the table to make you lock it up. Also makes any trades or deals more complicated if, say, you're buying/trading for something and the other party sees something in your collection that's off the table - maybe now they won't sell/trade unless it's for that one thing. The personal collection's more for my benefit than for others.
You're gonna be better off in the long run just doing on deep dives in the database or checking out the artist threads, follow that rabbit hole down to see what other art/interests intersect. Asking people to share their collection just so you can find interesting things is....fine, but most people would avoid that just so it doesn't turn into questions about whether such-and-such would ever be for sale, etc.

i swear i searched for this question before asking it - how'd you find that thread?
and thank you - that thread was insightful, and a bit of a rollercoaster.

Luls. Pretty much. Remembered it had been discussed before (like just about everything else round here), and used a bot to search for it. Duh.
P.S. the most surprising thing about the thread was I hadn't posted in it.

the pic should say:
EB user 1: "What's the lowest yer willing to go?"
EB user 2: "What's the highest yer willing to pay?"
