I saw the two threads next to each other in the unread list and that codeblue had posted here shortly after the original thread. I didn't need to click to see what he posted lol

Wrong, recent research suggests the number is more like ~40% using renewables. Not to mention if renewables are used for X (crypto and social media), then renewables cannot be used for Y (heating or cooling) and thus coal, nuclear, etc will be used instead. Unless there is an excess and it can be stored.acidburn wrote: ↑Mon May 24, 2021 6:37 amClose to 80% of miners use renewable energy. You actually get rewarded more for using it. With miners leaving China, who are less energy efficient/use more coal and the hash rate percentage being spread out to other countries that are more environmentally conscious , it actually helps with that issue. And with NFTs, there are so many sites running of a POS chain + ETH switching over soon, it will definitely help as well. Don't think its going to be the end of our planet.maddog76 wrote: ↑Mon May 24, 2021 2:18 am25% of all power in Iran is use for crypto mining. Chinese miners have made corrupt deals with corrupt leaders in Iran to illegally steal power (generated via massive polluting fuels). This has resulted in power outages for regular people.
Crypto and NFTs are a global environmental disaster. Crypto has to end, if not it very well may be the end of our planet.
And in Iran, here is the other side and what could be causing the outages: https://www.aljazeera.com/economy/2021 ... y-backlash

This article was also in 2020. This one is from 2019 https://finance.yahoo.com/news/study-ov ... 0738.html . No matter where we go or research, we will never get exact numbers I guess. As it evolves more with regulation, I imagine it will paint a better picture of it all. Especially with the added pressure and more investments going into it, the numbers for renewable will definitely increase. It definitely already is with most of the coal mining in China leaving for renewables in other countries.recycler wrote: ↑Sun Jun 13, 2021 12:29 amWrong, recent research suggests the number is more like ~40% using renewables. The account from the guy above actually tweeted that they shutdown facilities in Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia and Qinhai. Only Hydropower farms in Sichuan are left causing to go above 50% clean energy. I want to say that a majority of the mining in China was coal prior.
