Here’s a gap in my understanding: if something like this can happen in broad daylight, where the theft, flip, and conversion of the flip’s eth proceeds into real money are all “visible” then why can’t the process be stopped midstream or, assuming it happened wicked fast, at least have the ape (or whateverTF) frozen after the fact? Just make it illegal to trade so it never winds up in legitimate hands again?

It gets flagged on Opensea so it actually sucks for the buyer because they don’t know. It’s a big thing with OS. Ppl are obv against it

yikes... why the drymount would you sign anything with the wallet that contained your apes... i don't get it. feels like so many people that get scammed are just irresponsible with their assets.

this is exactly why everyone should manage their own wallets and all finance should be decentralized with 0 security nets.

whoop.

Ah-so! Thanks.

Sucks for the person who got ripped off too. If there’s a place to find out whether something’s been flagged as stolen then maybe check there before buying?

I feel like so many people get scammed because scammers are relentless and there’s not much recourse for the scammed. It’s a free unregulated lottery for thieves.

Yea and the worst part is that it can happen x days/months later.

The developer of Mutant Ape Planet non-fungible tokens (NFTs) has been charged with defrauding buyers.

No one has heard of this project but hopefully it’s the start of many. The project we just helped restart was rugged for over 3 mil
