To all the collectors and printers out there. Does anyone know much about Production Sample prints?
What are they? Are they valuable? Is it better to have this than the actual run?
I thought I would start a discussion about this as I couldn't find anything on the topic that was helpful. So I thought it would be good for collectors to show their prints on here if they did have a production sample.
Also I had just won a Ken Taylor First Blood print on eBay, so I just wanted to find out if I ended up paying over the odds! EEEKKKK

I had bought a print and on the back of it, it had a Mondo stamp saying “Mondo Production Sample not intended for sale”.SPAC04 wrote:sounds like you are describing a printers proof
Would you class this as a printers proof? What exactly is a printers proof?
Sorry about the basic questions.

Fair enough, but would it not matter anyway if you could not see this in the frame or that it is a production sample so there may inevitably be defects?Woo5lscott wrote:All of the abovedarkninja1985 wrote:Would you say the issues are the mark, crease etc?Woo5lscott wrote:It has some issuesdarkninja1985 wrote:What would be the issue with the item?

there is such limited information that i have seen on these production samples, is the consensus that they are less valuable than the numbered ones? When i emailed mondo about my Grandmaster production sample, i was told they only made 15 of them prior to the numbered run. Basically just trying to figure out if these are considered lesser thans or not, as i am looking to sell mine.

I ended up keeping my print and had it framed as there were no visible defects. I guess if you want to sell it, I think you could get a fair price depends how badly the buyers wants it regardless of it being a production print.shawnzy5000 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 25, 2021 12:20 amthere is such limited information that i have seen on these production samples, is the consensus that they are less valuable than the numbered ones? Essentially, it's not looked at as part of the actual run. It has a stamp on the back, as opposed to a handwritten number on the front. Some may look at this as "less than", as it's not part of the "edition", nor is it an AP. Sort of the same way people look at Printer's Proofs (prints marked PP). They're runoffs or extras.
You should be buying it for the art on the front, not the numbering on the bottom.
