Removing A Drymounted Print

Hey guys. So the tragedy of discovering a newly bought print is dry mounted finally happened to me. I'm aware that a dry mounted print can be removed by a skilled conservationist, and was wondering if anyone on here has ever undergone this process. If so, who did you use? Also, what was the impact on the print? Did it affect the texture of the paper or anything else that can be noticed from the front? I'm debating whether or not to try and remove it, or just enjoy the piece as is. Thanks in advance for your help!

Thanks! I shot John an e-mail. My inquiry is mainly regarding the affects of removal. I just don't want to chance it and end up with a print thats loose but looks like hell.

a lot depends upon the type of adhesive used. try Chris @ Chameleon Restoration in Brooklyn.

What's the value of the print. I'd take that into consideration. Removing a drymount can be costly. And I would have stern words with the framer that drymounted the piece in the first place.

Damn that sucks man. I hope you got a decent discount from the seller after you found out is drymounted. Otherwise, I'd be sending that print back. Good luck! Hope you're able to get it worked out.

I had 2 drymounted prints reversed in the past (local framer). Never affected the front of the print in any way, though the texture on the back was affected from the adhesive. There are different kinds of drymounting. Some are supposed to be reversible (mine were), while others aren't or at least would potentially offer a greater risk of damaging the print. Also, I guess some paper would make the reversal easier, while others could be more complicated and prone to tear.. Probably very hard to evaluate the risk if you don't know who/what/how it was drymounted..

If you are going to frame it, may as well leave it drymounted
