Yep same here. I do think the gold leaf looks nice though. Even the wife said, she'd rather have sans honeycomb to pair up with our other bee.

I agree with you guys but appreciate that she is trying something new. I guess that's why she calls them studies? Plus, I've noticed that her bees are getting better and better. The wings and hairs are killing me lately. I'd be so focused on that quality bee that it wouldn't matter if I landed early or late.

I've found a great way to get the tiniest pin pricks of light is to cut the stem of a cotton bud (or q-tip) at an angle to get sharp point and use that, it's a cheap and brilliant solution! And you can use the cottony end to blot up any mistakes (both ends were used equally) This painting is part of my Supernature show at @antlerpdx the end of November.

There will be both graphite and oil pieces in the show (most of the birds are owls though, I got carried away!) and will be the last big series of work I'll be releasing for a time while I catch up on my (incredibly patient) commissions, so if anyone is interested in seeing all the work before it goes public please contact gallerist@antlerpdx.com Thank you all so much

This is my first attempt with coloured ink pencils and I've really enjoyed the chance to play around with a brand new medium. I haven't figured out yet how to get the level of detail I usually like and I think that's turned out to be a good thing, the more relaxed sketch like quality of this drawing really suits the character of this busy little winter visiter.
