Yeah, Nico's been putting out foil variants for a lot of his prints, and with this being completely his artistic direction, you have to assume it's a preference of his and used as an artistic device. I'm eager to see it in person.earlgreytoast wrote:I put Vacvvm above the whole foil renaissance thing, letting the art speak for itself and not relying on what has largely become a gimmick in the screen printing world. I have to think the crew honestly felt that using foil for this particular print was going to really accentuate it and it's not just a way to sell more prints. It's just crazy how most foil paper costs pennies more than regular paper, yet foil prints are always at a 50-200% markup. Understanding that that's mainly due to the foil being the variant version and most likely from a smaller edition size, but it's still a bit off-putting.
Hoping to see both in person so I can judge for myself.
THE VACVVM: Official Discussion Thread
So it goes...
A few words from Nic:
Oh and as for a backstory for the print, let me try and put something into words. It's part of this "world" i've been putting together with all my artwork (as in most of my pieces happen in the same world, but at different time periods/places and have these immaterial beings that manifest as harbingers of natural disasters), but here's specifically what's presented: a warrior draws their sword as they're about to confront this mythical being.
