Ha 2015-"ISH " Interestingly 2015 is when Jessica and Justin left and started ISH.jrsheppa wrote: ↑Fri Mar 24, 2023 4:15 pmLet’s face it, this scene blossomed in 2008, bloomed from 08 to 15ish and has been over saturated and dying since then, maybe before. Still sad to see the end of an era. But if I am being honest, out of all the art I own, only a couple of pieces are Mondo releases at this point. Regardless, I hope all those guys land on their feet. They should be proud of everything they’ve done.

this is the second Mondo thread too - first one was just as long, if not longer

Meeting in a church parking lot with no idea what was going to happen and seeing 6 buses pull up, load into them, get escorted by the police down the highway, wheel into an abandoned mall and hear the bus driver say GET OFF THE BUS while it was being attacked by zombies is gonna be tough to beat for mystery movie experiences. RIP mondo

Standing outside the New Beverly all day for 3 days in a row in order to sit in those uncomfortable seats for 6 hours 3 nights in a row...NOT SO MUCH

Sucks for those let go, no matter what Mondo was the center of this scene through good and bad.
I have to say I'm with the "not surprised" crowd.
For the past year their poster offerings were pretty meager and every email was flogging some vinyl record or squishy toy I had zero interest in.
It is the end of an era, and progress as they say is marching forward.
Interesting to see what's next.

I would argue that whatever your taste Mondo were always putting out something interesting when it came to posters, they weren’t releasing them that regularly either so I think that meant it had more consideration in terms of art direction and design. Not everyone’s cup of tea but I don’t remember seeing many releases that made me think ‘that’s just lazy/bad’. They always had something that challenged me to give it a second glance and even I didn’t quite like it I could always appreciate some aspect of it, which would usually come down to either the concept or the graphic design elements such as typographic layout.celloman85 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 24, 2023 7:05 pmA lot of people coming in here sad but Mondo hasn't been good for years now. As soon as the Stout, Moss, Horkey, Ansin, Taylor era of prints flipping was over and Justin Ishmael left, the company died. Nobody is getting excited for We Buy Your Kids prints and Wrath of Kahn vinyl. When was the last time anyone was excited for a Mondo release? I have a lot of fond memories buying the early stuff though. Seeing Tyler Stout metal Iron Man II print hanging around the online store and not instantly selling out were wild times.

Never met any of you geezers at a mondo show. Although I think JoJo came out for the LA mystery movies and handed out pens? Am I making that up?
Also pretty sure Benelli and Bickel were up at the front of the line for Taylor/Stout. Maybe I am wrong about that too lol
