Nope, I feel the same way.

Maybe it's because I don't have kids but I thought The Babadook was extremely overrated.

Agree with this as well. I thought the BABADOOK was overrated and I was bored with it.

I did enjoy A QUIET PLACE. It was a fun movie. But compared to HEREDITARY, I'll take HEREDITARY over it.

As for the A Quiet Place vs. Hereditary debate... Hereditary is the better "film" with a lot more excellent cinematic elements & acting, but I just enjoy A Quiet Place more. I didn't overthink it and just enjoyed it for what it was. I wouldn't consider AQP a horror film though. Just personal opinion.

Hereditary is a horror movie about the horrors of mental illness, with a horror-movie genre ending tacked on. As a movie about frightening mental illness its brilliant and scared the fudge out of me. As a "horror" movie in the traditional sense, it was pretty standard fair.

But like someone else said - it has much better cinematic touches to it than AQP, which is a good Saturday afternoon clever-thriller, at best.

Sometimes people just want to be entertained. Rather than be slowly drymounted with for two hours and watch sacrificial lambs who have no agency in the story, walk slowly and deliberately into a slaughter. with seemingly random powers and abilities of horror elements in the film.

both are films about families dealing with guilt and trauma, but a quiet place used its heightened reality to tell a suspenseful horror film with consistent stakes. which not only informed the characters, but how those characters navigate their relationships and trauma.

anyways. drop should be easy for those who are after stuff.
