It still works as a decent design though, I like the bravery of featuring just the environment and I get he's building ambience and suspense by having a lot of open space in the dark. The concept of the red light as a glow in the dark layer is interesting too. But I don't understand why the composition leaves so much space above when I think it would be way more suspenseful adopting a view closer to the ground where everything is much more obscured.

Agreed. We’re pretty much in the era of “if a horror movie doesn’t completely suck, then it’s amazing!” The bar is set very very low. I’m looking at you Get Out, Hereditary, Quiet Pace, Babadook etc etc.35mmpaul wrote:it was better than Hereditary.

Hereditary is fine. It just isn't the best horror movie of the year. Toni collette is a gd boss tho.35mmpaul wrote:it was better than Hereditary.
If it gets a wide theatrical release, it is probably doo doo. There have been very few exceptions to this rule the last 10 - 15 years.kschumac09 wrote:

PS Babadook drymounting rules. Movie hits drymounting hard if you're a parent. Not to say that it is ineffective to anyone who isn't but I know seeing that movie pre parenthood and then again post parenthood were 2 totally different experiences.

As what? A familial drama? Absolutely.FrankBooth wrote:Hereditary is actually good though.
As a horror movie? Absolutely not. Throwing a ton of fudge in a flick for shock value doesn't work for me. The ending is also complete dogshit. I can see why people liked it but it didn't work for me.
(Collette on the attic door works tho and the sons response)

As a parent, Babadook just annoyed the hell out of me. That gd kid... ugh.RambosRemodeler wrote:PS Babadook drymounting rules. Movie hits drymounting hard if you're a parent. rambo gets it. loved the scene at the dinner table. but all the horror elements are clunkier than stepping on a pile of legos in the dark.

In the beginning of "A Quiet place" there is a news paper on the ground that says "It's Sound!"...premise didn't fell apart for me.I think i have an in ordinate amount of disdain because it got a lot of comparisons to "Get Out", but taste in films like any art, is subjective (especially for horror films) so i'll leave it alone. I dig the MRT tho.
is it wrong that I liked Hereditary and A Quiet Place but was bored to death by The Babadook?
Nope, I feel the same way.jlabbate wrote:is it wrong that I liked Hereditary and A Quiet Place but was bored to death by The Babadook?
Maybe it's because I don't have kids but I thought The Babadook was extremely overrated.
