Dead serious question and I'm not trying to be a hater but why are these such a big deal? They're ugly and it's a band that only old guys get excited about. Am I missing something? Do they appreciate in the aftermarket crazy or something?

For me, I've been listening and seeing Phish since 1993 if not earlier. Pollock has been associated with the band for a long time, remember seeing his art on their Junta album. I like gig posters and a bunch of different artists and he's one of my favs.celloman85 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 17, 2022 8:10 pmDead serious question and I'm not trying to be a hater but why are these such a big deal? Why such a big deal? Pollock does roughly one gig poster of theirs each tour (ish). It's always fun to anticipate which show he'll do a poster for and what the work will look like. I like gig posters and sure the rest of the community does as well. Phish posters were a big part of why ExpressoBeans exists today, and Pollocks work is at the helm.
Ugly? To each their own. Art is subjective and I drymounting love it. He used to do linocut and that's a drymounting thing of the past - a lot of artists are digital and he's old school - I like that vibe.
Ugly? I could say the same for some artwork in your collection, but perhaps I'd say that I just don't care for it. It's not ugly in my opinion, I just don't "get" it or "like" it.
Old guys get excited about? Is this comment about the music or the posters? What's your definition of old? Quite frankly doesn't matter because I know and see plenty of All ages people - man and women get excited about both.
Am I missing something? Perhaps no, perhaps yes. Open your mind to liking new things and maybe you'll like these.
Do they appreciate? Sometime yes, sometimes no. Doesn't matter to me and to most Pollock collectors.

Definitely not just guys. You just see it prob on Facebook. Huge female fanbase. A lot of times it’s couples. I’ve met so many doing this over the years.celloman85 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 17, 2022 8:10 pmDead serious question and I'm not trying to be a hater but why are these such a big deal? Listen, I’ll be honest. Phish wasn’t for me until I saw a live concert and realized what it was all about. And seeing on the art side how it works with artists like Jim, David and many others, it’s just a whole other layer to it all. People just connect to it. Jim has become one of my favorite artists. Just something always fun about his work.
And in regards to appreciation, can search his name. Think it’ll answer that question
