Am I the only one surprised by the popularity of art print versions? It seems like all you see is people asking about credits but I never see requests for credit removal. Many art versions, like the Goonies, just don't look very good compositionally because the artist has left a large space for text that isn't there. I get the appeal of the Jaws one as a print from the standpoint that the art is a bit different and it's an interesting historical note. But I think the lenticular format fits a movie poster much better in general. I'm never usually looking for more 3d effects from my art pieces. Maybe it's just my own association coming from collecting theatrical posters in the past or the history of 3d movies and advertising. I just think a lot of people would look at that piece on the wall and wonder why you have a 3d shark picture unless they know the history. ANYONE can look at the poster version and get it.
Sometimes I prefer an art print version of Struzan's and sometimes I prefer the titled poster design, some work better than others (e.g. Blade Runner). I do prefer the full poster for The Goonies because there is a chasm of space that has been intentionally left for the titles/credits and in this instance that space has very little texture or colour but at the same time I think it adds to the sense of height - you get more of an impression of the sheer drop below them without the title filling that space.

For me it generally comes down to wanting to appreciate Struzan's artwork on it's own from a collector's POV as opposed to wanting to collect/own the poster design as a whole (for that I could just buy a cheaper reproduction), because that is a collaborative piece of work with other designers and for some reason it doesn't feel like it's Struzan's anymore. Maybe I'm weird though.

It's actually Drew's preference over the titles. Thats the reason why I believe it started before us.
What did you do to him tho?

With Goonies, I prefer the Movie poster version because nothing is lost by adding the titles. With Jaws I preferred the art print because it's obvious that it's Jaws and in the movie poster version the artwork is reduced and I didn't care for the large black border with the titles. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder I suppose.

Wonder how many of the signed Goonies they will sell? I am thinking about picking one up.
