No, its thicker than a spotlight overlay. The reg edition might be similar thickness but I would wager a tad thicker than an overlay.

The best way to describe the heavier one is that you can prop it up on a shelf or chair, no frame is really needed. The thinner one, probably not but I could be wrong.
Both are super durable. The effect and look is the same. No way could you tell a difference when looking at the two in a frame next to each other, other than if you had a backlit frame for the light to pass through (plex ed) like the ones at a movie theater, and those will run you 2-300 bucks. I had one hard wired into the wall for double sided one sheets in our previous house which was cool.

I'm also guessing that the back of the thinner one doesn't allow light to pass through, but I don't care as I want it to add to the 24x36 SD frame rotation I have going on here...the extra $100 wasn't worth it to me personally.

2001, the Pollock, and next week with Ferguson ESB and Struzan BTTF3...not a bad two week stretch.

With regards to the difference in the effect, here's BNG's FAQ section on the subject which seems to imply the PLEX is better for 3D lenticular effects:

"There are two main materials used for lenticular lenses.

The first is called PET (Polyethylene terephthalate) and is around 1mm in thickness. This lens can be mounted on either paper or plastic backing. This material is best for transforming effects, but can also be used for 3D effects.

The second is called PS (Polystyrene). It has a thickness of 4mm and resembles plexiglass. This is best used for strong 3D effects."

The 'strong' effect from what I have seen and what I own is due to the light passing from behind the design, which the thicker one (should) allow. So there is higher contrast, and thus the image is bold. But in daylight without a backlit frame/propping it up in a window, I would bet the difference is either zero or marginal.

Either way I am intrigued, although I won't ever see the difference anyway since I didn't purchase both. Moot point then.

Yes, and I am curious how closely BNG either replicated the traditional lenticular process or refined it in some way.
