I felt this way with Man of Steel to a lesser degree (felt it should have been around 70% on RT), but I feel some of these early rotten reviews for PR are just being written for the sake of being "hip". Would you say, considering your response to this film, that those that say this film sucks are doing so purely for attention? I have seen lately that movie reviewers just like to be different for the sake of it (maybe they think their review will be read if it is one of the only rotten ones - who knows).
I saw it last night and thought it was typical run of the mill action. Very little character development, didn't give a crap about any of the protagonists. Really nice score and sound design. Incredible monsters(although I thought they would be a bit more varied visually) and awesome battle scenes. Atrocious acting. Relatively contrived script. If it was not for the awesomeness of the creatures, this would have been truly terrible. I really thought Del Toro could make a big action blockbuster that was also a quality film. I don't feel that he pulled that off.
Shhh!

I think it is more "hip" to trash a Michael Bay, or even a Zach Synder film, ... even though this one may deliver similar goods as those. GDT has more cred. The only trashing I've seen of this film is that it may not open great - which very well could be the case.

There was less drama in the Mondo thread when it was born.

"Hip" as in more of "hipster". Hipsters think they are being unique when they don't go with the norm. EVERYONE thinks Michael Bay is stupid. A hipster would go against the norm and say his movies were "being taken too seriously" or something.
