EDITED SO ITS ONE POST

just to add fuel to this fire.

from facebook
Seizure Palace Screen Printing: Hi guys, to clarify, we should have never printed this file in the first place. it was a very challenging print and not very "screen printing" friendly as an image or as a print file. I was really upfront about this with Roman and told him that it would be an experiment and we wouldn't really know how it would turn out, but that we would do our best. The regular version came out pretty good, but the variant (blue version) not so good even though it was just ink switches. We told him that there was nothing we could really do about reprinting it because the same thing would happen because the file itself did NOT lend itself to screen printing.

this conversation went back and forth with no resolution because this print in particular was not really set up for screen printing at all. they kept all the copies, we never reprinted them and won't. we got paid for half the job (the deposit) and never got the rest after a lot of back and forth about selling houses, leg surgeries, etc... We even got a call from another print shop that never got paid by them either (it was WAY more than we were owed) asking us what the deal was with Roman. All in all, as a small business we have to protect ourselves and sometimes when business relationships don't work out, you have to let things go. There are other clients we have had to let go too, but there are no hard feelings. We do what we do really well and can pick and choose who we want to print for. Money doesn't mean anything when it comes to the stability of our workplace relationships and workload stress. That is all. Have a good day guys!!!

we always, always want our clients to get what they want. a huge part of my job is to help clients understand the medium and help to keep their expectations in check. we are always down to try new things because it helps us to grow our knowledge base but sometimes fudge doesn't work out the way we want it to because screen printing has its parameters. i wish everyone could work at our shop for a week and see how hard we work and understand that screen printing is a cruel mistress and you have to placate her every mood and whim. EVERYTHING is troubleshooting. nothing EVER works out. we have to TRY and TRY and TRY again until it works. That, ladies and gentlemen is the root of the medium. so no, you can not have a split fountain with metallic inks that glows in the dark with a 1pt trap on 60# text weight foil paper (just in case any of you were going to order that.)

I don't see anything they said as being untrue. The prints arrived. They did not look good. They had expressed trouble with the file (as had other printers) and we had our artist fix the issues. Then they printed it. Still did not look good. They were supposed to send us a return label for the bad prints, but did not. I have gone to great lengths not to publish the printer's name, but it is what it is. We still have the boxes of prints and would like to send them back. I wish whoever had posted this had communicated with me directly as all of our other printers did.

I have no ill will. I just want to get the print out to our customers.

So not paying printers?? Are the artists getting fully payed?? Did all the artists know they were all doing Pacific Rim prints for a series or did they each think they were doing the only one?

I don't think it was a secret.
