Laurent Durieux - Appreciation & Discussion
Agreed, but if anybody has a thing for roof tiles, then major win.ethnosax wrote:I love Durieux and I love Hitchcock, and I even kind of like the concept of this poster. But this is definitely a case where the "no likenesses" thing hurts the poster. Grace Kelly looks amazing in this film, which in all other respects is (in my opinion) kind of mediocre. A poster that doesn't feature her as more than a silhouette is just not the right thing.
The thing within a thing here is nicely done, although it works better with the actor names in the (fake) AP to help justify the darker areas that define her neckline. Overall though, there's so much dead space in the middle of this image... a change of angle, and some foreshortening could've helped, with the cat and the foreground talking up more room... or repositioning to show some windows or interiors of the room below the roof... or perhaps simply aligning the title with the roof tiles. Dunno really...
The tower is such a central part of Vertigo and its use as the focal point in LD's print make sense, removing the need for likenesses. It's also an evocative and instantly recognisable building... This roof feels kind of anonymous, even accepting the cat burglar subject matter of the film.

Best prank eva
It was already weird enough that he'd be screenprinting an extra credit block layer and poking the licensing bear before the regular print sale run happened. But not the first time he's toyed around with us poster nerds either.

A better joke would have been to say this was an OCE release.

Really wish I had never seen the credits block version now.
