Interesting convo people.
To begin let me say congrats to Doug on the Moe too. It was very cool to watch the whole thing come together. I hope you stick with it and prosper (or at least have fun with it.)
Second, as a collector/dealer-wanna be I like the idea of knowing the whole run number. It would be nice if the AP run wasn't more than 20% (I don't know-that's what I tip so long as it's not shitty service.) But it is clear that some artists push the number above that. Will it keep me from buying a piece I want as an investment either one to keep or resell? Probably not. But it's not like I'm buying a ton of a single print anyway (with one exception maybe.) I buy what I would want to keep and ultimately I may sell (or giveaway - see "Anything Goes" thread) all that I buy.
Finally, I think this conversation is great. It's cool to see artists- established and up and coming - (you're gonna go blind if you keep it up) talking about these things in a mature manner. While we all have different opinions but the exchange is healthy and good progress to an understanding of what each side desires.

Agreed that this is a great discussion. I'd love to see more artists chime in. I agree that collectors have a HUGE interest in prints, numbering, etc., that artists should, & in most cases do, pay attention to.
What a weird business postering has turned ot to be.....

Bueller? Bueller?
Guess we may have to start paying artists to chime in?
Not really, but I may try giving a few a nudge and see if that helps any. I'm not that in touch with many, but every artist that gives an opinion is one more view...

a lot of Artists' opinions about ethical issues/rules in this thread over on GP, well worth reading the whole thing:

MY 'RULES'
1. Poster must be at request of second party invovled with the show. Band, promoter, venue, booking etc.
2. You must have agreement with them as to the ability to sell some.
3. Must give promoter/band as many copies as they desire.
4. if a reprint-must have permission AND clearly mark it as such on one of the color plates/ screens.
5. Sell entire run for i set price. retain A/Ps for later markup is OK.
6. If band hates poster-trash the run.
7. Insist as much as possible that posters actually be used to PROMOTE the event.
8. You retain the right to re-use image but NOT band name for other things. That is a grey area when it comes to books and so forth. TRY to get band OK before using posters in books etc.
9. NEVER think that YOu or your POSTER are 'more important'. Your posters ONLY exist because of the good grace of others. BE GENEROUS with those people.
10. If you are PROMOTER...do what you want but have BAND PERMISSION.

I actually feel the need to apologize for someone else.
Sorry, but to say that APs and PPs are unethical is...
I can't even describe it.
I'd like to see him get one artist to agree that APs should be outlawed.

And I thought I was the one who needs to regulate their meds.

They do so much with just the notes that they have. I mean who does that? Who messes with that kind of stuff?
