I purchased a print from Shagmart the other day. When it arrived I noticed there was a small ink/fingerprint spot on one of the corners. I contacted the merchant and they were more than willing to replace the print. I posed the question to them about what would happen to this one. I got no response to my question.
So what happens to these things?
Is the print destroyed, sold at a reduced cost, kept for the future for use as a donation to a charity (auction perhaps)?
I'm just curious.
So What Happens When A S/N Print Is "bad"

Well, someone sent me back a print that was damaged that I replaced... I ended giving the damaged one to a friend of mine for free for her birthday.. she didn't have any money and really wanted that particular print.

There are many kinds of AP's. I recently bought the tamarind book of ethics which i have not read yet, but it is in the cards.

sometimes I sign and number the ones with fingerprints and draw a picture or something lame over it. Not to try and hide it but to accentuate it. If someone didn't like it I would gladly give them another one, but I think it makes them cooler.
If you sent it back to me, I would put it in my super cool prints that are going to be worth more because they are one of a kind folder.
If you don't want these in the future please just send em over to me.

Well, I don't know what happened to the "bad" APs but they have been replaced with prints bearing the same number as what I had returned. I haven't seen the actual posters yet just the COAs.
What's your bible say about this Thomas?
As Col. Klink would say, "Veeeeery interesting."
Or was that his short little Nazi buddy that always dressed in black? What was his name?

this is kinda sketchy. I'm not sure how I would feel about getting the same number back.

Well, I know someone that has debated with me on this topic before, but he is not here. I read the book just now and I could find nothing that says re-numbering to replace damaged in-shipment prints is unethical.
I have mixed feelings about it. But since I cannot find hard rules one way or another, I would leave it to the artists to decide. My instinct says that numbering happens at one time and should not be repeated. A/P's are supposed to be labeled as such. Hence, one would have to erase A/P and put the number on after the fact to do it. That would at least appear shady.

I rolled them out last night to flatten. Same numbers but not the same prints.piemel wrote:the replacement poster.. did you receive it yet?
if it has the same number as the damaged one you mailed back then please post it here
So how many extra's do you guys think they print? Like Thomas, I feel the numbering/signing should be done as printed or approved. But, hey, so long as they retain their value and no second editions appear I'm happy.
Still, it kinda makes one wonder how everybody defines/operates in this crazy world of art. Like Alex Lenz says about artists "we're all flakey." Maybe so. But could you guys come up with some kind of SOP?
