I found this in an alley near my house and I felt like it was just about the right size for what I needed.

It fits this with about one inch to spare all the way around. Any suggestions on the finish or the matting. I was thinking about painting a reveal or two on the frame to match the print.

Here's another James Jean for you. Just picked it up from the framer today. It's the same frame stock that I used on Toymaker.

Here's a close-up of the mat around the signature and it also show the color and texture of the frame rather nicely.

Notching mats for signatures is almost always unnecessary and cringe inducing. Nice frame though.

Thanks!

I agree with you regarding notching. I have only done it for these 2 James Jean pieces. The name of the print and edition size were tiny and I wanted to keep the mat as close to the image as possible; however the signature and chop were on the larger size as you can see. If I wanted to keep it close all around, then it would have cut the signature and chop in half.

I personally don't like the aesthetic of the 3 sides even and the bottom left large for the signature. The best example of this that comes to mind are framed Horkey Mogwai prints. It just looks awkward to me, but I understand wanting to leave the signature.

I'd normally agree with blue, but I think the reasoning behind it is sound. I'd probably just cover it up entirely, but I've seen less and less of a point of showing signatures lately period. It makes for a much cleaner frame job a lot of times just ignoring them altogether.
