The center is just a piece of plywood that comes out. It was cut to take to the glass shop and have a glass in-lay cut.

Update!

Decided I hated the cherry stain. So today, I sanded the whole thing back down and went with a stain called "espresso". It's a dark, rich, chocolate brown. We applied it a bit thicker in some parts than others, and it's making it look more rustic and earthy.

Here it is after being applied to the base: Here is a small bar inside (that won't be visible) that we stained and I smoothed out with some steel wool. The steel wool removed the glossy finish, and left it more matte. I'll still need to stain the drawers and then purchase the hardware. After that, all I'll need is the sheet of glass and she'll be finished.

Got it finished up. Definitely not as nice as Billy's but I am still very happy with it given what little time I put into it.

That looks really great. Simple, clean, and most of all, complete!

What'd you end up using for the top?

Kitty cats and prints don't mix well....

I kick the cats out when I have prints out.

I bought 2 table tops from IKEA and screwed them into the base. They don't work perfectly, They hang off the front and the sides about an inch and a half like I wanted but there is about 4-5 inches extra on the back, so it will always need to be against a wall, but for $20 I will take it.

The dust from the litter, mixed with cat urine would be what I would be worried about. Unless ALL your prints are in plastic sleeves I would move the flat file if I were you. I have cats, and know that litter dust can be a bitch to deal with.
