My $0.02, don't mess around with the gift card. If that's a deal breaker, so be it.

Now this is odd. I just bought something on eBay that I did not get charged sales tax on. Saved me $40 so I can't complain but I don't know how it happened.

It depends on the state. Not all states require sales tax or have a sales tax law in place yet.

So

Buyer files unreceived item claim 10 days after I ship. Item arrives two weeks later and is now held until buyer returns in “4-5 weeks and after I inspect the item to make sure it isn’t damaged I will release the hold”

Am I just SOL until they decide to pick up the package?

Update: maybe some EB magic?

“We closed this request since there's been no activity for 21 days. As a result, the hold on this transaction has been removed.
You don't need to do anything else--we wanted to keep you updated.”

What a yahoo. Glad they were too unaware to follow up on their “claim”

I think it’s part of the new money laundering crackdown and required for companies collecting and transferring payments,

Capital one made me do it recently. I had had the same card for 15 years too

No as your money won't be going through paypal anymore.

It was mentioned earlier that, while you won't be paying 3% to paypal, ebay is basically charging the same percentage for their managed payment service. I haven't switched over but here's the quote from some pages ago.

So does eBay charge a fee for managing the payments like PayPal? I've not seen anything forcing me off PayPal yet but I don't have a business account.
Yeah -- currently it's something like 10% ebay + 3% paypal, and managed payments are basically 13%. I think eBay is requiring all sellers as of 2021 to use their managed payment thing. All my existing listings are locked and they won't let me modify or add new listings until I switch over.
