WTF is up with Firefox? I noticed in the last two weeks or so that it's using a crap load of memory. I mean the fudge is ridiculous. Scroll lagging, a lot of buffering while streaming vids. The high cpu usage is sporadic...it's okay now, but a couple of hours ago it was freakin' crazy. Scanned the pc to see if there were any viruses...nope, it's clean.
I'll do a modem refresh, tomorrow...if that doesn't resolve the issue it looks like I'll have to create a new FF profile...a clean slate to see how it performs w/o any addons/extensions - then slowly add them again to see what might be causing the problem. I hate this stuff, sometimes.

I struggled on with Firefox doing pretty much what you describe because I've been a big fan I'd it from back at the beginning. It kept crashing on me too. Tried a fresh start and still had issues. Eventually a few months ago I finally ditched it for Chrome and I haven't looked back.
