hey photographers, post your photos
Love that photo Dan. We've got some great buildings in Toronto. I've been meaning to take a photo of this old factory and send it to you. Very much in line with your other stuff. Must get around to that.
Here's some stuff I shot last month. I've had no time to sort anything, so just grabbed a few of the ones I really liked. I'm using my new Canon G10. I'll have to say, I love it, but it's going to take a while to get used to. Photos taken with the auto setting I find have their colors somewhat washed out, so if you want to take the good ones, you need to use the manual RAW setting and play around with the ISO/F stop/Shutter speeds. But you can capture pretty much anything in any light setting. I got some great starry night shots (not displayed here though). I now need a good macro light for my wild mushroom hunts.
This first one I'm posting for fun. Some house in the middle of nowhere. Looks like he might be an EMEK fan.. lol
I can't decide which of these last two spiders I like more...but my favorite shots this summer.

love that last shot, great composition.
for a macro flash, look into a ring flash. youll be quite happy.
one thing im loving about my nikon, the pop up flash is bright and even, but a little too bright for macro. this lovely nikon lets me reduce the flash intensity, which is great for macro shots.

Yeah, I was looking into a macro light ring, but they're even more expensive than the camera. Was thinking of designing my own, considering the cost of LED lights and the ease of powering them. As for the built in flash, I've got the same option, and it works well for the most part. I just need to get some settings preset on my camera so that when I'm hiking, I don't have to adjust for every shot. I read up on the nikon before I bought this and they had a lot of complaints about the flash casting a shadow on macro shots due to it's position behind the lens. (pretty much the one main reason I didn't go with that one). It takes a while though to get used to a camera I find.
that shadow can usually be removed completely or at least significantly reduced with just a small index card or white business card taped behind your flash. also, i found a few inexpensive ring flashes on the 'bay.

That second one's even cheaper if you look around. I had been looking at the Macro Ring Lite MR-14EX as it actually has some pretty decent reviews about it. Seems like it's quite useful. The big drawback is that it's really expensive. But it's probably something that would last. I might consider that cheap one next year if I can't afford the other yet.

in terms of image quality, these are on the other end of the spectrum compared to the bird photos i posted a couple of posts back. but, i love them, so i'm gonna share them. i also posted this in the music thread, but i know not too many people are into this band and wont click that thread, so i'm re-posting here. lucky you.
so heres the story about the shots. i couldnt get my dslr into the venue, so i made do with my point and shoot. they are, however, incapable of taking sharp images in low light. the pictures come out grainy, so i decided to use that to my advantage and shot mostly in black and white and sepia tone. i think they came out great and have a nice vintage feel to them. heres a few, the rest are on my flickr page if you want to check them out.

i love this shot. and yes, jeremy still makes those crazy faces when he sings. also look at dan....all night, the two of them were all smiles. they look intensely happy to be playing together again.
my absolute favorite shot of the night, and currently my desktop background. i think it perfectly captures the 'feel' of the band and their music.
again, if you like 'em, check out my flickr page for more. and leave some comments if you are feeling froggy.

Taken at my buddy's house. His last night as a single man. When we drink fireworks usually end up in the mix and they are always used dangerously. The first one is better but you gotta love the fire shooting from his crotch in the 2nd one.
Always liked this one of my Beverly Hillbillies bike on my trip to Alaska.
Inside the Into The Wild bus the summer before the film was released. His boots were still in there. The suitcase can be seen on the lower right. The hike was a posterkiller.
