We received one of these for my first born and made one for multiple friends since. They have always been well received.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I've already grabbed a few off amazon based on this thread
Mr. Paul was born 12 hours early, last Wednesday night. I can't wait to start reading him some of this stuff and have more waiting for when he's older.

Congarts Cragars!
A bit older but books I had when I was a kid.
Richard Scarry were among my favorites, still great as I came across some of my old ones.

Agree with Bubbie there about books with flaps and textures when they're still small. Mine liked the Spot the Dog books and the Ladybird busy series (e.g. Busy Farm - https://www.amazon.com/Lift-Flap-Busy-F ... t+the+flap)
When they get bigger, the world's their oyster. Julia Donaldson is always a safe bet.

Congrats!
There's also an Elephant and Piggy play that makes the rounds to the children's theaters around the country that's very good.
And yes, you gotta do voices.
We need to mention the Elephant and Piggie books by Mo. They are awesome. We have about a dozen of them. My youngest is 7 now, and pretty much done with them, but from 4-6 these were in heavy rotation. It's spendy ($100ish), but I'd suggest just going with the full collection. Individually they'd cost over $200. And go with the hardcover. We read the paperback ones so much they fell apart.hunterjax wrote:Pigeon books, Naked Mole Rat, and Knuffle Bunny by Mo Willems

I use my normal voice for narration. I get really goofy with character voices. The kids love it.jjbehren wrote:For sure. I always have any 3rd character be my normal voice, though.finneganm wrote:My Elephant and Piggy voices are outrageous

Congratulations!
Well my kids loved Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak or the instant classic Red Riding Hood.
