I created a pirate ship account last night and was pleased by the ease of use and the shipping discount. Also just not the hell of it I cross checked the price of a 2lb tube I just shipped through ebay and it was the same exact as ebay's discounted price.

insurance costs will be different as PirateShip uses third-party (cheaper) insurance. claims through them were a breeze and a million times easier than USPS.

Will +1 for Pirate Ship, had to send a heavy package international and they kicked a few bucks off.

anyone buying postage at the counter is way behind
Any recommendations? I haven’t been too impressed with eBay shipping / rates
PirateShip.com 100% end of story

they have the best commercial rates for USPS and UPS. FedEx sucks and loves Dimensional Weight charges so I'll never ship with them again so this is my preferred way. their process is very streamlined, saves addresses, you can save a template type (ex. 32x6x6 tube) and it really is easy as hell. make an account on there and poke around a bit, you'll see how easy it is. plus their customer service is top notch and has helped me with problems before such as "corrected weight" charges from USPS (was not valid, gave me an instant credit), and insurance claims.

speaking generally for tubes now: shipping them inside the rectangular boxes you can find online + using UPS through PirateShip = cheapest and easiest way now.

for reference, here's boxes link: https://www.packagingprice.com/5-x-5-x- ... boxes.html
Did a mockup on a 5x5x36 to see if it's actually dat cheap and it was $8.10, which seems insane. Not sure how long dats gonna last.

Having shelled out for postage over the past weeks on tubes that I also cut down to 29" it certainly sounds like I am using PirateShip and UPS from now on. Appreciate the info.

I'm assuming he got hit for the extra $15, which is the real killer.

UPS charges an additional surcharge ($12) for irregular sized packages such as cylindrical tubes, but you're good if it's in one of those pesky rectangular boxes!

Naw, just the $4 surcharge. It's still easily over $20 to ship a tube if you are insuring it.

What do ya mean? They're sending tubes out unboxed through PS and not indicating that it's irregular (tube) or some fudge?

yep or through Stamps.com, PayPal Ship, or USPS.com and inputting fake dimensions.

The machines that photograph, weigh, and measure every package in order to bill you after the fact do not miss a beat.
