World of Whiskey
I have yet to cross the $50 threshold for a bottle, I am fairly cheap I will readily admit. I really wish more bottlers offered their whiskey's in 375 ml versions.
A whiskey guru at TPS in Cincy passed away 2 weeks ago and they are having a benefit for his family tomorrow. $50 a couple but food and drinks are provided and its all for a good cause. I may go down for it. They are having a silent auction and looks like some pretty decent hard to find bottles will be on the block.

Well, if you want some of the good stuff (some of those are good/rare), then you will have to go well past your $50 line. If you go, definitely make note of what the Van Winkles each sell at please. The one I've yet to get is the 23. If they have a Van Winkle Rye....I'd LOVE that!Danno1 wrote:I have yet to cross the $50 threshold for a bottle, I am fairly cheap I will readily admit. There are some really good bourbons to be had for a bit over $50 you may be missing out on. Scotch is pretty tough to get something very good for that price or less I think.

I didn't make it to the benefit. I will eventually break my $50 mark but have a whole lot to drink before that happens. I am pretty much completely stocked for a good 2 months.
I had the Knob Creek small batch this evening and it's not bad at all. Sweet pears on the nose, hints of vanilla on the tongue and a pretty wicked smoky taste towards the end. Cut it with some water and lost a lot of the smokiness and adapted a toffee hint of taste. Not bad at all.

Tried the W L Weller Special Reserve this evening, great whiffs of sweet cocoa on the nose but not much in the taste. Really the only taste I can gather from it is a fairly harsh and spicey finish. Seeing as how it is a wheated bourbon I would rate it with Maker's Mark which I also didn't get much from. Maybe I just can't grab the taste of the wheated stuff.

I was very disappointed in this as well.
It reminded me of turpentine

you really think it's worth $98 a bottle for something that may or may not be from one of the "good barrels?"cargoflipper wrote:padelimike wrote:Pa People:
