Anybody had this? 9 year old whiskey, then aged in wine barrels. For $33 on sale figured it sounded interesting enough for me to try it.

mtarail wrote:Have you tried the "regular" version of WR double oaked, Danno? Here in AZ it's twice the price of the standard WR. I'm not a big fan of the flagship WR. Tastes pretty much like a caramel green apple IMO. Not much to it and a little too much alcohol burn for a whiskey that's only 90 proof. But I've been interested in trying the double oaked for awhile.
Danno1 wrote:Yeah I loved the regular Double Oaked, had it when I visited WR. The regular WR is 33, the DO is 52 and the SBDO was 58. I am as cheap as they come but would really pay the 58 again anytime, it is worth every drop to me personally.

I have had the regular WR 4-5 times and just cant seem to get much out of it.
I picked up a bottle of Woodford Double Oaked on Friday.
It's soooo damn good. I love the campfire char at the finish. it runs about $70/bottle up here ....man am I in trouble.

Based on the discussion here, I ordered the WR double oaked through my local shop. Just got word that it is in, so off to pick it up after work. Hope it's as good as advertised.

Seeing the previous poster mention "campfire" reminded me of how much I enjoyed the heavy peat/smoke taste of the High West Campfire Whiskey recently. I wasn't able to camp this past summer, and this brought some of that feeling into my home.

for $33, I'd have bought one too.
It's $50 here - MSRP.
Maybe they'll close it out in a year or so.

I'm pretty busy right now with this:

I love the stuff, just is extremely smooth with me. As of now it is the best bourbon I have ever had. The first time I had it was at the tour at WR. They give little 1 oz samples, as I finished it I told my wife "damn that is some great bourbon right there." They have a double-double oaked for sale at the distillery. Regular double oaked aged for an additional year. $50 for a 375 bottle. I may get some next time we head down that way.

I like the Willett Pot Still Reserve, it's just a Heaven Hill product barreled and aged at Willett. Though I tend to like everything from HH. I think it's worth the $40, but wouldn't really pay too much more than that. My wife loves it, it's her second favorite bourbon.

Damn thats a haul of Old Forester, never had the bday but do like the Signature 100. I hear the BIB is fantastic.

if that display is in fact yours, you really want to keep your Scotch in the boxes, out of the light.

It is in fact my display. Most of the outer bottles are my drinking stash. The ones in boxes are the ones I keep for a special occasion. But I do appreciate the advice :pint:

Any rules on keeping them chilled or not

I read that you just want to make sure they don't get too hot.
Also that the bottles should always be upright so the corks stay dry.

I liked the Willetts better than Makers or Knob Creek...

My sister came down last week with a bottle of Basil Hayden's which I had not tried in years. Pretty tasty for an 80 proof- apparently owes a lot to the high rye content.
just a foil for me today, thanks

That's great! But I tried the 15, little bit of a let down honestly.
