it seems as though the whole thing is on the ground.. and the camera angle just makes it look like it has height to it..

What is video compositing? Just special effects? It's not actually an optical illusion? (that's the way I'm leaning)

If the whole thing is on the ground, how does the water fall vertically?

i don't know if it is.. it seems as though the water stays on that one piece of wood.. the time it takes for the water to go around the first bend takes like a second but each segment takes longer for it to get to the end, which makes me think they are just longer pieces near the back of the room.. if you check his shadow, it looks like it's cast on the second part but not the lower part cause it's more to the left instead of being right above the lower part..

Cool. So I guess the water is not actually hitting the wheel and he has some mechanism in place to spin it, or the wheel is not actually placed at the base where he pours the water?

the wheel is where the bldgs. are in those diagrams. the wheel is actually to the left of the pillar

hahahaha... what a load of fudge... i wonder how many people have had to clean up gallons and gallons of water in their kitchens?
