Only about 99% of all species to ever exist have gone extinct. While I would agree that we need to try and eliminate anthropogenic causes as much as possible, and the extinction of the this particular creature is a tragedy that could have been prevented, extinction happens. It will be our turn someday.

Yeah, I was thinking more along the lines of scientists making sure that they collect enough DNA (etc...) from this species so that we can resurrect it when the time comes.
It's too bad that scientists back during the dinosaur era never thought to collect dino DNA,

Elephants have about 10 years before extinction in the wild. Kathryn Bigelow just did a documentary on elephant poachers, terrorists are using the ivory trade to help fund their "causes". drymounted up world we live in...
