Cool. I get it now. I didn't realize it was done by Barry, but when you refer to those others it makes sense now.
Personally, I love the 96 Ireland. It's soooo politically incorrect, and I like that type of 'black humor'. Conan O'Brian runs along the same genre with his whisky swilling Irishman impressions.
I can see now where our differences are.

Oops.
I just looked at the 'bandage man' from Ireland 06. I don't like that one since it is a sloppy simple design, not many colors. Kind of a gritty industrial look. But, on the other hand it doesn't look at all like the Chicago '06 Bush character.

From the Rolling Stone story:
"Pearl Jam going back on tour in '06 gave us an avenue to funnel not only our creativity, but also a way to voice our frustrations with how unbelievably out of control things had become with our current administration. If I were to sum this poster up in one word, it would definitely be 'dastardly,' a word usually reserved for 1970s cartoon supervillans." — Colby Schultz

I'll guess someone thinks the "gas pump tentacles" and the "Ratfink eyeballs" and cartoon style probably remind them of the other hot print.
By the way, what was the run on this?

My two cents - really really late. It's a poster for Chicago, but every time I look at it I think it should be a D.C. poster. I get that it was the Bush era and gas/oil was a major point of contention, but even though it sez "Chicago" on top, it still doesn't feel like it's a Chicago poster. I like the concept and, were I at the show, being a die hard PJ fan, I would have probably bought it, framed it and hung it up in my living room... but from a non-show-goer's perspective, Ames has done way better than this (I do like it better than the Chicago Klausen offered up that year).
