if this was commissioned by the promoter, how did emek get permission to sell these? or did the band comission these as well for commerative posters? just curious.

i think promoters have commissioned emek several times in the past...only pearl jam made a stink about it. i could be wrong though.
i believe one of the velvet's sold for over a grand a year ago. it was at 400 or so with less than a minute to go haha.

call me an amateur, but wouldn't a poster printed onto a velvet surface lose some of its detail ?

some do some don't. the decemberists looks tremendous on velvet. nick cave not so much. the more detail, the worse it looks.
