Thats bull...I work for a top 25 promoter in the nation and yes we do posters to promote shows, but if management does not want them done, we dont do them. Materials that represent bands pretty much always go through their management to get approved. if there is a promoter thats doing things differently then they are not representing themselves or the bands they book very well at all.

Which begs the question..... What is this Slater poster for? Is it unofficial?

Personally, I love Slater's work.... But this poster is horrible IMO.... I only collect shows that I have been too and this one, I think will not buy. Really bums me out to dislike this poster.

I think latley the use of " official " in these threads is is kinda anal . Lots of different types of Official. It's not parking lot or garage sale art
yes but your missing the point. It was not commissioned by the band, so in that regards no its not "official". Let me remind you of EMEK and the mars volta poster along with emek and the Pearl Jam poster.

People just cant go around making up stuff representing bands. Even if the promoter wants a poster they just cant go and do whatever they want.
actually, since they set up & promoted the event and are the ones paying the band, the promotors actually can do whatever they want. at least as it pertains to the marketing and promotion of a show, which, often times, involves a poster. if you've ever seen a performance contract for a show like this, especially booked through live nation, et al, it states that pretty explicitly.

technically, the promotor could commission a poster of somebody effing the band in the ass and there's really not much they can do about it...

a top 25 promoter? Does that mean you work in a small town somewhere? Seriously, there are that many promoters? I can think of two...

I work for AC Entertainment we are located in Knoxville TN. You may have heard of some of the events we do...Bonnaroo, Vegoose, DMB July 4th in Charleston, 4 shows on Tom Waits' recent tour, the 9 night Smashing Pumpkins residency at the Orange Peel last year. There are tons of promoters in the nation, some as small as 1 person, some as big as Live nation.

that means nothing to me. i am not jumping off a bridge just because emek does.

i think it defeats the whole purpose. you are supposed to go to a show, have it kick ass, then buy a poster on your way out if it kicked ass. but now you are supposed to sit on the internet and email/handjob artists for posters that are not available at the show for a show that you never went to. ?????

Rest assured, Todd Slater would not be selling a poster for a MMJ show if MMJ didn't *at least* know about it. As for the poster, I like it. "Normal" sexy if that makes any sense, and it fits the mood of the album very well. I bought one...
