This is gorgeous! Wish it was for sale
Just the paper it is printed on, afaik.

Congrats to anyone who got into that commission group. Kinda wonder why Eng is doing (unlicensed?) commissions for popular properties that are easy licenses to and no likenesses are even needed. I know Mondo had Ghibli rights in the past and hasn't BNG and Spoke done recent Ghibili pieces? BNG does a bunch of LoTR pieces. Not hating on Eng or the commission orgranizers at all. Good for them. Just seems like a missed opportunity for Eng to generate more revenue and get these out to a (somewhat) wider audience. This would have been an insta-sellout for BNG at a bigger edition size.

I've wondered the same. Godzilla seemed the oddest based on how many posters have come out the last few years. Mondo's Ghibli license expired years ago and believe anything from Spoke art is unlicensed. anyone please correct me on that. only guess is timing? since commissions book years in advance maybe at the time no one had the licenseTonyC wrote: ↑Wed Apr 28, 2021 4:04 pmCongrats to anyone who got into that commission group. *shrug* Dealing with licensing restrictions, notes, studio approval, etc. may be a turnoff for some artists. Stuff that seems like a slam-dunk can get derailed by somebody in charge being lukewarm about it - I mean we've seen a Doctor Strange poster get tossed, not because of likeness issues but because it posed him in a cross-legged lotus position.

Agree that it must be frustrating working within constraints where you have to make changes for seemingly arbitrary/petty reasons. I wonder if it's also more lucrative working with a commission group? Also, less pressure in terms of deadlines perhaps. Maybe they just don't get asked enough by the galleries and they're happy for paying work from fans.jkw3000 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 28, 2021 4:13 pm*shrug* Dealing with licensing restrictions, notes, studio approval, etc. may be a turnoff for some artists. Having said that, it's a shame someone like BNG didn't pick up Eng for LOTR...something that gorgeous needs a bigger run!
