Really don’t understand to hype surrounding these certainly not Mann’s best work to date imo

Just because you don't like something doesn't mean you're being bitter because you don't own it.

They're very good but I also don't think their Mann's best either, but I do get that people might see them as being grails since they are a classic film franchise illustrated in the same hand painted style as Struzan, Alvin, or Amsel. And i don't think there are many posters that have got much closer to capturing that classic nostalgic sense of adventure, Gabz' trilogy print and maybe Hugh Fleming recently.

Also I think another reason for the love is due to the original Raiders title treatment, with the majority of officially licensed releases having to settle for the much longer and less appealing Indiana Jones And The Raiders Of The Lost Ark. Personally though, the typography makes this set. The illustrations are good but aren't that special, the typography elevates them, though I'd probably much rather the credit block and border wasn't teal, black would have worked nicer imo.

I hope one day this gets the printed treatment, did Struzan do posters for the whole trilogy?

He did, but IIRC from his art book that they were commissioned well after the movies releases.

W/r/t this set: I think that it is nice, and also think that Mann needs to vary his designs a little more.

I guess that I just wish that his stuff was more daring.

The art is nice, but the credits ruined it for me.
The fact that this is a reverse commission (based on art already existing before) is the main problem.
The art was not conceived with enough space for the credits, and the ratio did not fit the standard 24x36.

So they use this green « frame » to get around the art. But the emptiness is still there, as the difference between the yellow background of each sketch and the papyrus paper.

Once again, art is nice, but doesn’t work for me as a 24x36 screen print.
Maybe it would have been better without the credit, and making the art center piece bigger on all the paper...

I don't think the ratio or the frame is a problem, in fact the illustration proportions aren't far off the Struzan posted above
