A recorder is a woodwind instrument (in German, Blockflöte)

It's often used as a teaching tool for playing other instruments, as it's relatively simple.

Haha, oh yes, they do. First thing I had to fight my way through in school... And, oh, how was I bad at it! Can't believe I was ever willing to pick up another instrument after that.

I really didn't even think that "recorder" was the word for flute. Had never heard it used that way.

And even though I kind of hate the thing, I can appreciate it in it's own right by now and love the feeling of the above painting.
