From the artist:
I represented the crushing weight of the greed brought on by the oil industry through its place upon Daniel's back. I showed the parasite like relationship of Eli to Daniel by showing him trying to hang on as Daniel becomes more of a monstrosity. I finally showed the separation of Daniel from his adopted son, by depicting H.W. walking away from the oil juggernaut.
