I like it but seems rushed.

I was at that 20th anniversary show and saw it for sale at the merch stand and passed up on it. Didn't want the hassle of getting it back home to Chicago on a plane. I love that print. Hope to own one someday. This one blows though, IMO. Shame for a 30th anniversary print.dutchflowers wrote:I'm a Pollock fan but honestly, this print is disappointing to say the least. Kind of a half assed nod to 30 years, IMO. In fact, the whole thing seems half thought out and executed. Bummer..
I was hoping to have a companion for the 20th anniversary one.. Oh well.
I wish that the Phish text had more detail.

This is not only one of the worst Phish Pollock posters, it's one of the worst Phish posters ever imho.
Your mileage may vary and all that but talk about mailing it in...yikes.

i just dont understand. i mean i get the wood cut technique is unique in itself and a difficult medium to use but this poster is lacking in creativity. Why would it sell for so much on eBay?!?!?! What is the obsession with Pollock all about? Millwards work (and Kelly's) this run is far and above more creative and energetic. This looks like a talented 7 yr old got a hold of the crayons. The merch stands have me baffled. I got to the 8th floor of MSG, 5 minutes after the doors opened, and the waterwheel folks had just taken the 5x pollocks the stand had for sale but left the Millward and Kelly's.....why would they do that????
This is fugly! Can't really say anything more about it. I like some of Pollock's work, but it's really nothing special anymore given all the other great artists out there doing Phish posters. And anyone paying even $200 for this is crazy, never mind the $400+ people are paying

i got the chance to talk with Jim last night after the show… i wish i had one of the prints he did - either the waterwheel or gig print. i think too many people look for resale value as opposed to nostalgia of gig print. my two cents

I don't think the resale value has anything to do with it IMO. There are too many good artists out there putting out great work.. then there is this.
just don't like it.. like i said if this was late 90's, early 2000's... sweet.. but it's not. the art is evolving and jim is not.
