The Krell were never shown in the movie.
Its the monster from the ID, essentially Professor Morbius's subconscious rage at the newcomers disrupting his father/daughter relationship on Altair IV, physically manifested via the Krell technology. Some reviewers even saw an incestous angle on the plot, with the fury due to Neilsen's character finally stealing away the daughter's affection to her father. Pretty heavy for a mainstream film. Said to be loosely based on Shakespeare's The Tempest.

It's in GID ink, I don't think you're supposed to see it in the light.

Really? The Id monster is there?
Yes, looms right above Professor Morbius's house on the variant print.
so that's the GID in the variant? anyone have pics of the GID yet?
I haven't been able to get it to glow enough for a picture yet. I guess it just hasn't absorbed enough light.

I think I was 16 or 17 the last time I saw this film, decades ago. I loved it then, and suspect I am going to appreciate it even more this time when I watch it in the next few days.

Yeah, I heard rubbing gasoline on it makes it extra shiny, too. :lol:

Time to fire up a viewing of FP!

Anne Francis is so good as Altaira in this - she carries a lot of the film. And look at young Leslie Nielsen!

^^this

I can see why Morbius gets stressed - his daughter is making out with all the male visitors!

Well worth another watch, now that I am (mostly) grown up. FP deserves its place in the pantheon of great sci fi films.

Prospero -> Morbius
Miranda -> Alta
Ariel -> Id Monster
Caliban -> Robbie
Sycorax -> Krell
Ferdinand -> Cmdr. Adams

And thanks for the link, ONEYE!
