Hey,

I want to begin by thanking everyone who attended ARPS last month. I was out-of-town, but heard a good time was had by all. In particular, I want to thank our co-sponsors for all their efforts in putting the show together:

  • TRPS (TRPS.org) – A great organization comprised of awesome folks. Their wisdom/knowledge is invaluable to ARPS and our “hobby.” Thank you, Marty, Ben, Jethro, John, et al. If you’re not already a member, please consider joining their organization (https://trps.org/support-trps/).

Additionally, we want to thank Sweetwater (sweetwaterbrew.com) for generously hosting the event and our volunteers for selfishly putting in the time and labor to make the event happen. We hope to see more of you at TRPS this fall and ARPS next year.

I’m currently preparing taxes for Year 2024. Our financials are not looking great. EB’s expenses run between $900.00 and $950.00 every month. However, our income is averaging $585.00 per month, with $360.00 generated by e-Bay income and $225.00 derived through donations (thank you to those who donate/donated – it’s greatly appreciated). As an aside, the good news here is our donations have increased over the last couple of years (again, thank you). EB is consistently losing over $300.00 per month and has been for the last couple of years. Expressobeans.com used to be self-sustaining with e-Bay income. Unfortunately, that doesn’t appear to be the case any longer. We need to stop the bleeding.

With that said, here are some of the ways you can help Expressobeans.com:

  • e-Bay Purchases – If you are unaware, ANY e-Bay purchase you make using ANY of the e-Bay links within Expressobeans.com also generates income for EB. So, please “go through” EB to purchase your e-Bay items, if possible.

  • For Sale/Trade Forum – The, potentially, one silver lining in all this is the BOD has decided to reopen the For Sale/Trade forum to comments and edits. Our intent is to reopen it within the next week or two. There will only be 3 or 4 simple rules. And, we’re going to request a “voluntary” donation if you make a sale. Hopefully, this will provide some revenue for EB.

  • Tech Team – This is another area where we desperately need help. Presently, we’re “mostly” a one-man show in the tech department with papaver (thank you) as our only consistent volunteer. Due to the size and complexity of EB’s database, we need at least 3 or more semi-consistent Tech Team Members. So, if you have a technical background and would like to volunteer to help EB, please reach out to papaver a/k/a The Tech Team.

Thanks to the collective efforts our Members, Team Members, and, especially, the Tech Team, EB is far healthier in day-to-day operations when compared to 5 or 6 years ago. However, EB cannot continue to incur $300.00 plus monthly losses. We need to “right the ship” before it’s too late. If you want to help Expressbeans.com, now’s your chance.

FYI and thanks.

Thanks for posting this. What is the easiest way to "go through EB" for any and all eBay purchases, beyond art? I think I read that correctly. Cheers!

The way it works, I believe, is that if you click an ebay link on EB you are cookied. You don't have to buy what you clicked on to be cookied, so whatever else you buy at ebay after you click from EB to ebay, EB gets credit for that. Someone correct me if I got that wrong. Just made a small donation...

I went to donate and got a 404 error, not sure if this could be a browser issue or if the link is broken?

On that note, could the Donate link be made more accessible on the home page? Maybe slot it in the Main top left section for easy access instead of having to dig for it.

ps. I was able to access the donation page through the link in the OP.

Hey,

Yes, this is exactly how it works. For example, if you intend to purchase a widget from e-Bay. Click on ANY active e-Bay link on EB and make the purchase. Then, EB receives money due to our "Affiliation" with e-Bay.

And, thank you for the donation.

Hey,

An auction on e-Bay or another site (not EB) would be fine. EB CANNOT run auctions onsite due to our contractual obligations with e-Bay. However, an auction run offsite and the proceeds donated to EB would be wonderful.

Hey,

Thanks for the donation. For others and just in case, this should (hopefully) work:

https://www.paypal.com/webapps/shopping ... openButton

We have discussed making the Donation link more prominent. However, we haven't gotten around to that yet.

If auctions are not allowed, how about a raffle? Im sure we could pool together a phenomenol list of prizes to keep this ship afloat.

Any reason not to sell ad space on the site?

Ebay banner on the home page would make it a lot easier for users to remember to click the link before shopping.

Thanks for keeping us informed!

I think if we phrased it the right way (e.g., for the support and maintenance of EB), a raffle could potentially work.

One of the original tenets of EB was that it was to always be free to use. If at all possible, we'd like to keep it that way. Of course, it's been discussed, but we would prefer not to turn to that until plan "Z".

Agreed. The problem is the final bullet point in the original post: The Tech Team. There's only so much one person can and will do. That's why we desperately need help here. We've requested Tech Team volunteers for over six years now. Ten or fewer members have reached out and only one (papaver) has "stuck," thankfully. However, being long-term reliant upon one person to maintain the back-end of EB is, eventually, going to fail.

Definitely getting banners up to generate income should prioritized. I would also say print houses who are on here, artists, resellers with online stores and of course eBay banners would be a good start or drymount that all and just charge $100/yr membership and with that you commission one membership exclusive print per year.
