I tried to be concise in explaining but I'm probably not as concise as I think.

This tool can be built as a stand alone program to scrape and dump info into a db. I could make this whole thing happen (minus the filtering out of what's been added via this method when the transition from for sale listing to sold item happens) right now by telling the program to submit the for sale listings with my ebeans account, I would not need access to ANY of the ebeans back end.

I suspect this will add a serious amount of ebay listings that aren't manually added by users. What amount of extra commission that generates I don't know but it's certainly not zero and once the program is written and running... It just keeps going.
i think this is a great idea and probably the easiest way to start generating more revenue for the site.

Does EB have syphilis or something? I'm getting the "Not Secure", people are stealing your info message.

^ It wasn’t even weird this time. I thought “Oh well, I guess that’s how it ends.”

One thing is for sure, things such as renewal fees should be put on auto-payment so that one will never have to see the “page not found” or whatever error it is that shows up once in a while.

I think the best way to get the forums active again is to keep the art database flowing. Most come to the site to understand value. Then they stay for the possibility of buying/trading/selling. If the database is current and the art's values are recorded, the more traffic we'll get and the more likely the forums will pick up. At the moment though, the database approvals and updates feel like a bottleneck. For the record, having had conversations about this topic before, it sounds like it's a crazy logjam back there behind the scenes. So, I sympathize with the workload. Maybe we need to get more people trained up on how to process the workload? I know I'd volunteer some time to chip in.

It seems like the database update thread has gone for weeks without any of the changes being made.

The problem with “training new people” is they only approve their own fudge. Topic has been discussed already.

While that may be the history, that doesn't mean it's the future. Shouldn't handcuff potential progress based on "what ifs." But maybe I'm not aware of the downside risk.

Also to your point, the database was "flowing" for a while when mfaithbot was cranking through the database before he went supernova. Forums weren't any more active then. Although, I suppose it could be argued the site was less stable than it is now. Something, something, history but not future tho.

At least mfaith was active on the forum and maintaining the database. There may be plenty happening behind the scenes but it certainly feels like the top caretakers (owners?) have no interest in engaging in the forums. Feels like the website equivalent of a print languishing in a flat file. The only one I ever see post is aperfecttree.
