Re: Viv's backyard flatfile refurb thread
Now that it's done, it was really cool to go through my old flatfile and rediscover all the old prints I had forgotten about in stacks. I also get to pull my oversized prints out of their hiding place and get eyes on them. Hello Mr Horkey, Mr Stout, Mr Ansin... All prints that I have only looked at ...

Re: Viv's backyard flatfile refurb thread
So I have painted the case, the drawers, and the tongues inside the drawers. I have only painted the face of the drawers, but masked the rest so hopefully it stays the nice grey powdercoated look. This was taken last night after the rain-interrupted paint sessions. The floor of my shed may never rec...

Re: Viv's backyard flatfile refurb thread
As of tonight the case is prepped with 2 undercoats, and all the drawers have been stripped and primed.
Weather permitting, paint day will be this weekend. Gloss white. Hopefully comes out as classy as I hope!

Re: Viv's backyard flatfile refurb thread
Just about ready to undercoat these pieces. Have organised to get some long clamps so I can glue up the MDF case. I'll be out of town for a week or so, so the next update may be the final painting. Fingers crossed. http://www.youtube.com/v/B4cI3FjVGB4 Handles, post cleanup. http://i.imgur.com/UBl5Bh...

Re: My newest flat file - can it be restored?
I tend to put kraft > print > glassine > repeat. As far as I understand it's best to have something separating the prints. Even if it's just glassine > print > glassine at least it'll be enough. That said, if you spring the money and buy some mylar sleeves you'll be set and not need them. It is blo...

Re: My newest flat file - can it be restored?
... So my question is, once a print is flattened, is it OK to store it on top of other flattened prints without something in between them? No weight is placed on top of them at all. I am far from an expert here, but that's what I do. I tend to keep similar sized prints together in stacks so there i...

Re: My newest flat file - can it be restored?
Good call. I'm not going to worry about the inside of the drawers of mine. I am going to wrap the drawers in paper and shoot the front panel, and the top of the flap with new paint.
This looks pretty great man, good job.

Re: Viv's backyard flatfile refurb thread
Yeh I got the first couple of drawers done, no worries. It was a bit tricky with the head of the screw being really close to the base of the drawer. Problem is with the 3rd and 4th drawers I got to. The screw won't turn, because I think it is slightly bent, and I can't get a really good purchase on ...
