Re: World of Whiskey

I've been meaning to ask you cadeallaw...what do you think of the laphroaig 10 year cask strength? I've heard mixed reviews, but so far I haven't really enjoyed any of the barrel strength scotches that I've tried. I mean, they're pretty good when you water them down, but at that point I could just ...

Re: World of Whiskey

I prefer bourbon but I've been checking out more scotches recently. The scotch shelves in the specialty stores are all full and I'm kinda bitter about the bourbon shortages. Nowadays it's hard to find Eagle Rare, Blanton's or Weller. Does anyone have any suggestions for good highland scotches? I wa...

Re: Her 14 Ghostco

As far as the meaning of the image goes (movie scene or poster)... The dominant object in the scene and the poster is the 747 positioned as if it were in a nose dive. Therefore, this image, in my mind, immediately symbolizes disaster. To me, the 747 and its obscure posture is a metaphor for modern ...

Re: World of Whiskey

Why I like Laphroaig 10 slightly more than Ardbeg 10: Laphroaig tastes like smoke and peat mixed with ocean air... kinda like drinking a campfire on the beach.... although detractors state the "ocean air" taste could be described as "sweaty gym sock". Ardbeg just tastes like smoke and peat. Love the...

Re: World of Whiskey

Why you no like Laphroaig?
-10 yr
-10 yr cask strength
-qtr cask
-Triple Wood
Are all worth trying (although kinda similar)... And then they have some more adventurous bottlings that I am not necessarily jumping up and down to try that you may find interesting (sherry cask finish, port finish etc)

Re: World of Whiskey

Yes do Laphroaig....
Yes the Corryvreckan is amazing... My favorite alternative offering from Ardbeg (ten year is tough to beat for the price)
...the Galileo is alright, but is not as good as either the 10 or the Corryvreckan (although more expensive).

Re: World of Whiskey

Btw, the gf is getting me the Corryvreckan for my 30th bday, which happens to be tomorrow. Can't wait to try it! Let me know what you think.. That is a serious drink... Ridiculous even (but in a good way) The Widow Jane is good, although a little pricey (especially the Bloody Butcher). The Bloody B...

Re: World of Whiskey

Nice review, My personal Islay preference (or all around scotch preference in general) goes
1. Laphroaig
2. Ardbeg
3. Lagavulin
