Re: Top 5 Pick-Ups of 2016

So with buying a house and then sinking 10 grand into it this year, I decided to go a slightly different route with my collecting efforts. I've been scouring thrift shops, estate sales, Craigslist and online auctions for things that slip through the cracks - unattributed, mis-attributed and underapp...

Re: Daniel Arsham - Welcome To The Future thread

Seems that was a record fast sellout.

The cassette was $300.

Re: Coupon Code Update Thread

The Martha Stewart flat file arrived today in three large boxes, inside which I assume are a million pieces.

I see a lot of swearing, beer and temporary regret in my near future...or the usual.

Re: SHOW US YOUR ORIGINAL PAINTINGS, etc...."NICE" ART

This is nice. If you didn't pay too much for it, you have done well to be honest, Choe or not. Thanks. I think I did alright and essentially paid decorative value. Having it re-stretched was the highest expense, but still not too bad. The painting was only $80 and I scored roundtrip airfare to Port...

Re: SHOW US YOUR ORIGINAL PAINTINGS, etc...."NICE" ART

I thought it was a Choe as soon as I saw it. Definitely a "choe study", whether or not its actually by him. An interesting pick-up for sure. The face seems pretty spot on, but everything going on with the hair area definitely isn't as finished as gallery pieces. Also, it's on unprimed canvas, so ye...

Re: SHOW US YOUR ORIGINAL PAINTINGS, etc...."NICE" ART

Picked this up yesterday after having it stretched at Furthur Frames. It came up in an auction earlier this year. It was unattributed - just said it was an "abstract girl painting" or something like that. Guess it's still unattributed, but I thought maybe, just maybe, it could be some sort of Choe s...

Re: The Tim Doyle/ Nakatomi Art Thread

I have a lot of respect for Tim for the business he's built, especially with the impetus that spawned it. Obviously it's his business and he can operate it how he sees fit. I do take some issue with his sometimes disingenuous responses to critiques of his practices, like the one above or to question...

Re: AOR 3.1 Woodstock 69 Skolnick

Does anyone have any experience with this version? I have a lead on one that I'll probably check out this weekend. edit: Thought I might have a shot, but the owner just got in touch with Sotheby's. The owner was a Boy Scout at the time on his way to a camp about a half hour away from where the even...

Re: Confirming authenticity of older painting

Thanks, no idea on if they've been cleaned, unfortunately I have no history on them. I'm hoping to get the sellers name and see if I can't get a little more information on them. Yeah, was just wondering if lighting was just off on that bottom one or if a little cleaning and possible revarnishing (i...

Re: Confirming authenticity of older painting

Thanks for posting those...I was definitely curious. They look great! Particularly like the bottom one. Any idea if they've been properly cleaned in recent years?

Re: Confirming authenticity of older painting

Stopped by the Denver Art Museum this weekend. I know they have more in their collection, but here are a few pictures of what I saw. http://s32.postimg.org/kfmzedvol/EMartin_Hennings1.jpg http://s32.postimg.org/3ysh0p1gl/EMartin_Hennings2.jpg http://s32.postimg.org/k809kmilh/EMartin_Hennings3.jpg

Re: Confirming authenticity of older painting

Oh wow. No lightweight there. I've definitely seen his work at the Denver Art Museum. I know you're in Chicago, but there are definitely any number of dealers out this way who would be very familiar with his work. Maybe you could send someone detailed pictures? Check out the site for the Denver Art ...

Re: Confirming authenticity of older painting

Well, if they're consistent with his other work, at least you have the provenance part taken care of. Mind sharing his name? Maybe there are some dealers or collectors familiar with his work who could point you in the right direction (places like AskArt basically have an ISO feature too).

Same thing with Frank Gonzales. I'm sure it's just the tip of the iceberg.

I've seen paintings go for over 40k on there. Usually not any great deals to be had and people often overpay compared to other sales venues. Weird marketplace.
