Re: The Official Horror Movie Thread

Tried to make a point to watch some new things this October: Headcount (Netflix) was obnoxious, predictable, and generally pretty stupid. Haunt (Shudder) had some great moments and nice art design, but nothing spectacular. Anna and the Apocalypse: I wanted to love this movie. I really did. But I abs...

Re: The Official Horror Movie Thread

Thinking about doing an all Found Footage 31 in 31. So far, the list is shaping up as follows. I'm using a pretty loose definition here, and this list pretty much includes stuff I own or that will be streaming in October. What am I missing? Any suggestions or good additions? Blair Witch and Blair W...

Re: The Official Horror Movie Thread

Caight "Ready or Not" this morning and really enjoyed it. It was well made, a lot of fun, and had some surprisingly excellent gore. It also definitely gives some "You're Next" vibes, but that's a good thing in my book. Definitely recommended.

Re: Got a good documentary to recommend???

"Hail Satan?" was pretty awesome… and as entertaining as you'd want a doc on the Satanic Temple to be.

Re: The Official Horror Movie Thread

Finally catching up on some stuff and taking advantage of a new Shudder subscription: Why Horror: fun but thoroughly unremarkable horror doc. There's clearly lots of passion leading this one, but not much of a story and a bit lacking, save for the director's passion. Leviathan: pretty standard love-...

Re: Comedy/Comics/Comedians Thread

Got to see Patton Oswalt and Dave Attell last week (at separate shows). Patton was thoroughly amazing, and the new hour is going to be pretty great. It was clear he was still working on a couple transitions and was still adding tags and callbacks, but he was awesome. Attell was solid as well, but hi...

Re: The Official Horror Movie Thread

Saw "Ma" this past weekend. Octavia Spencer gives a pretty great performance, but the rest of the movie was lacking. I'm hoping there's a slightly longer cut out there that adds a few scenes that help flesh out a few key moments and characters. Also saw the "Scary Stories" doc on VOD and was thoroug...

Re: The Official Horror Movie Thread

More Amazon Prime found footage. I see you: Can’t quite decide on this one. In some ways it’s standard found footage, but there are a couple twists in the third act that complicate what would otherwise be a pretty straightforward flick. Also, the last five minutes killed any good will the film had ...

Re: The Official Horror Movie Thread

More (mostly) found footage-style from Prime: In Memorium: micro budget decent-ness, good for those jones-ing for another Paranormal Activity movie. The plot’s a bit predictable, but the film is mostly watchable, despite some bad acting. A Brush With Evil : Decent setup that doesn’t quite pay off, b...

Re: The Official Horror Movie Thread

Been on a found footage kick lately. Now that the school year is over, I'm going to try to catch up on Amazon Prime horror. If you like the genre, I definitely recommend Butterfly Kisses. It combines some worn tropes with some nice twists, and I was thoroughly entertained. The play on Blair Witch (a...

Re: The Official Horror Movie Thread

Saw the Pet Sematary remake, and I'm a bit torn. On one hand, I didn't think it was stupendous overall, the third act felt very rushed, and I didn't like a couple choices. On the other hand, I appreciated that this version leaned a little harder on the Wendigo angle and the overall impact the burial...

This. Hopefully with a blue color way so it'll look especially nice hanging along side wolf guard, wet teeth, and elk guard.

Re: The Official Horror Movie Thread

Surprised there hasn't been more discussion of "Us" here. I loved some parts, thought s few concepts fell a bit shirt, and a couple elements were too openly telegraphed, but enjoyed it a lot, overall. Hoping to see it again in order to continue to unpack some of the themes and allusions. I also rema...
