Re: Framing Help/Advice Thread

I'd go with Tool's advice. This way you avoid all the hassles of shipping and the costs, you get to check out the moulding in person before buying, and you'll get a much larger selection. A fair frame shop will sell it to you at a markup to cover their time but it will be a lot less than if you were...

Re: Framing Help/Advice Thread

Would a Half Inch Mat Border Look OK? I'm looking to cost effectively frame up 5 or 6 small prints that are approximately each 10x12.5" in size. I would normally do a float, but the paper size is variable from print to print, and an 11 x 14" frame would give uneven borders around the print. One opt...

Re: Framing Help/Advice Thread

You don't want anti-reflective glass or acrylic when spacing the art away from the glass. Can't remember the reason why but I'm sure it had something to do with clarity. Change that to normal UV plexiglas. Pardon the pun, but I think we need to clarify this a bit. When you're talking about reducing...

Re: Framing Help/Advice Thread

I don't think it would be as good to use mdf for a backing from a conservation standpoint. It may be ok since it looks like you have another board for mounting, but FramerDave will be the one to ask. MDF in framing? It's garbage. Trash. Crap. Shitty stuff that has no place anywhere near a piece of ...

You really should use more, at least two on each side.

Re: Framing Help/Advice Thread

Yeah, it's possible to pretty much any mat with a reverse bevel when you don't want to see one. Personally I don't do it very often but that's purely a matter of personal taste, nothing more.

Re: Framing Help/Advice Thread

Ok, in the top one you have a red border around the image, then tan, then the white of the paper. Then in the matting you have red, then tan and then black. That's a whole lotta stripes going on there. As much as I like multiple mats you need to do something there. Maybe lose one of the mats or at l...

Re: Framing Help/Advice Thread

Similarly, I would also be interested in any recommended youtube videos that show how to go about framing the right way. Sorry, but there really aren't any. Well ok, maybe that's a bit harsh but there is so much crap advice there that it would be really hard to point you to anything decent. I would...

Re: Framing Help/Advice Thread

does framerdave have a shop here in Houston? Crap, I apologize. I got your PM a while ago but didn't answer right away so of course it fell off my radar. But no, I don't own a shop. I work on the franchise side for The Great Frame Up. We have four stores in the Houston area, one in Pearland and the...

Re: Framing Help/Advice Thread

Great, thanks Dave. I owe you a beer one of these days. I only got two things framed last night, because it was just taking so damned long. While we are on it how many points should I be inserting? Normally I am putting three on each of the long sides and two on the short sides. Too many? Frame siz...

Re: Framing Help/Advice Thread

First, work with your matted art face-up on the table. Brush it off or use compressed air to get rid of dust. Then remove the protective paper from the acrylic and quickly place it on top of the matted art. Then remove the outer paper from the acrylic and inspect. Brush or blow out any bits of crap....

The 2700 K bulbs have a warm light that's nearly identical to the warm white of incandescents.

Re: Framing Help/Advice Thread

I've noticed these museum glass displays all have some 3D object shadowboxed, never just a flat print up against (or near) the glass. From my experience with prints framed with museum glass, I feel like the effect is more noticeable in the shadowbox display than with a print. Anybody know if there ...
