It’s not someone else’s property until they pay for it. Being a the highest bidder at the close doesn’t make it a done deal. Most likely banksy was the actual seller, selling through a proxy, so technically, he destroyed his own property.

Apparently, the woman that bought it went ahead with the sale and has now made some deal with a German art gallery for it to be hung there.
