The Criterion Collection has announced that it will add five new titles to its Blu-ray catalog in June: John Waters' Female Trouble, Ingmar Bergman's The Virgin Spring, Michael Moore's Bowling for Columbine, Victor Erice's El Sur, and Lino Brocka's Manile in the Claws of Light.

Virgin Spring is one of my all time favorites in the collection. Can't wait to grab that on Blu.

Will for sure be picking up Virgin Spring and El Sur.

For those interested - the pre-order for the blu ray of Joan of Arc (releasing tomorrow) is down to $19.80 on Amazon, slightly below the 50% mark.

The Criterion Collection has announced that it will add five new titles to its Blu-ray catalog in August: Ernst Lubitsch's Heaven Can Wait (1943), Terrence Malick's The Tree of Life (2011), Tomás Gutiérrez Alea's Memories of Underdevelopment (1968), Susan Seidelman's Smithereens (1982), and Robert M. Young's The Ballad of Gregorio Cortez (1982).

My Man Godfrey and Andrei Rublev!

Man, I've loved My Man Godfrey for years, but I'm not feeling that cover. I always thought Kurtz could nail that property. Have Godfrey all big holding a tray in his butler uni, and on the tray are the rest of the family that he looks after in the movie.

I held out buying the Andrei Rublev DVD for years waiting for the Blu-ray and finally caved last year and bought the DVD. Whoops.

Never seen it. The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston is doing a Bergman fest soon. If they play it, I'll try to check it out.

Ha, that cover had me do a double take. It's certainly by Canadian graphic novelist Seth in his particular style. He happens to be one of my favourites, but it may be more of an acquired taste. And not dissimilar to the Bergman films on this page that some love and some just don't. :wink:

The restoration looks real nice, gonna have to make it to Lincoln Center for the screenings in August.
